Zander Horvath Scouting Report

"6'2 235 thumper RB and former HB with surprising speed and receiving ability. Body lean as a runner and durability are the sticking points."

Strengths:

Thumping, full back sized RB with above average speed and top tier receiving skills. Soft, reliable hands and a solid route runner out of the backfield. Runs to daylight well and gathers up open space.

Decent wiggle and cod for his size. Finishes runs and a bruising pile pusher when his body lean is right. Experienced pass pro blocker. Kick returner experience and a hands team guy. Clutch performer.

Horvath is one of my favorite sleepers in this class. He's a clutch player with surprising speed and ball skills on a FB body. Body lean as a runner and durability are the key points to his development as a pro.

Weaknesses:

Awful pad level at times and doesn't generate the push his size and speed should bring. Doesn't have first step quickness. Pass pro is just adequate.

Overall:

Horvath is a versatile former HB with solid overall athletic ability. He changes direction effectively, gathers speed in the open field, and has impressive ball skills. At 6'2 235 he's even returned kicks for Purdue.

As a receiver he's got clutch ball skills and should be a reliable target. As a runner he's got a tendency to get high through the hole and becomes an easy target to cut down. If he can play with a more consistent pad level he might surprise as a RB at the next level. Barring that, he's still a versatile, athletic HB or FB.
