"Pound for pound tough, smooth, ev accelerator that could be a high volume slot producer in the NFL. Sheer size and strength are the only drawbacks."
Strengths:
Instant accelerator with strong hands and special toughness. Bursts off the line with quick footwork and gears. Adept cod and stop/start mobility.
Tracks the ball with good ball skills and regularly makes difficult catches. Wins contested catches despite his size. Absurdly tough for his size. Clutch.
Weaknesses:
More quick than fast and lacks that 5th gear speed. Size deficient. Inconsistent separation at the top of the route.
Overall:
Downs is a cat quick, tiny, slot receiver with impressive hands and toughness. He's got a first step and regularly gets out the gate before defenders, whether its off the line or in space with the ball.
He's potentially a strong route runner with adept, smooth body control and deceptive gears. His body control allows identical starts into his route tree and makes him difficult to anticipate for defenders.
He plays bigger than his size in the red zone and when absorbing contact. If there's any drawbacks it's that he's not a true burner and will regularly be outsized by defenders.
