Amari Burney Scouting Report

"Off the radar former safety that carries above board speed and coverage ability for an outside linebacker and flashes the desired physicality you want"

Strengths:

Rangy backer with top shelf coverage ability and good overall awareness. Excels in coverage and can man up or anticipate in zone. Diagnoses well and is an effective blitzer.

Carries a thud when he's got a head of steam. Flashes strong hands. Solid ball skills. Stood out at Florida's Pro Day.

Burney is an off the radar guy in a shallow class of LB's that could be a late day or UFA diamond. As a former DB, he's got coverage skills and but is physical enough to play in the box.

Weaknesses:

Finds blocks and stays blocked. Lacks ideal size and speed for an outside backer.

Overall:

Burney's essentially a chunky safety and can be a key player in coverage. He's not a blazer but shows good range and can hang with guys in man.

He's undersized and gets blocked in the hole but flashes hands and physicality at times which makes you think he's got potential to get stronger and improve there. He's slippery and instinctive at the poa and is an effective blitzer with surprising pop.
