Chauncey Gardner-Johnson Scouting Report

"Can play anywhere in the secondary but not 100% reliable in any one spot. Special teams ace type that could master a role in time."

Strengths:

Versatile defensive back comfortable in the slot, in the box and at single high safety. Strong ball skills. Aggressive and quick in zone.

Good range and always around the ball. Solid motor. Tested well in Indianapolis and carries a lot of upside.

Weaknesses:

Takes bad angles. Finds blocks and sticks to them. Struggles breaking down with balance and leaks tackles. Reactionary guy that doesn't anticipate.

Lacks strength and can't take on blocks. Telegraphs the blitz. Incessant trash talker and initiates confrontations.

Overall:

CGR plays with a lot of heart and makes plays on the ball all over the field with good athletic ability. He's a versatile guy that can line up in various spots and hold his own but he's not great at any one particular spot. He lacks instincts and strength. Shows a lack of anticipation as a safety and doesn't have quite the necessary athleticism of a corner.

Best case he could be another Mike Adams; a guy that becomes a valuable, versatile pro's pro at S and NB. His floor might be Darrell Stuckey, a valuable special teams ace and reserve.

NFL Comp: Darrell Stuckey
