"Intimidating style and an exceptional run defending CB but his foot quickness and deep speed don't always sync up with his man cover skill."
Kirby Lee USA Today
Strengths
Long, physical and mean. Has an intimidating style and will try to lower the boom. Exceptional run defending CB. Flashes good ball skills and burst. Sound enough tackler to play safety.
Flashed elite traits in a college defense of elite players. Heralded athlete with good football genes. Back-ended the most furious front 7 in college football. Declared with 2 seasons of eligibility remaining. Young with growth potential.
Weaknesses
Appears like the prototype but his quickness, balance and deep speed aren't elite, although I assume he'll test well. He's long and physical but his foot quickness and deep speed don't always sync up with his man cover skills. I think he drifts against efficient route runners. And he's inconsistent in jump ball situations.
Overall
Reminds me of Eric Rowe who I loved coming out of Utah; long physical CB with top end athletic ability but is raw, lacks balance and loses track of more efficient movers. I've no doubt Humphrey is going early, but like Rowe, I think he'll need development and probably stumble out the gate.
I think he’s a safety/CB tweener. He’s aggressive closing on the ball and ragdolls blockers. I’d rather see him at safety but he’s athletic enough to at least try at corner first.
Pro Comparison: meaner Eric Rowe
