T.J. Watt Scouting Report

"Country strong, linear fast, comfortable in space and aware in coverage. Isn't the freak size/speed athlete that his brother is but he's a smart, versatile edge player."

Jeff Hanisch USA Today

Strengths

Country strong and linear fast. Heavy hands and sheds quickly. Stout and controls the edge. Changes directions quickly. Comfortable in space and aware in coverage; steers his man one on one. Chases down sideline to sideline. Never need to worry about his motor.

Weaknesses

Some stiffness laterally and misses tackles in tight spaces vs quickness. Doesn't finish as often as you want because of it. Collides with trash rather than slips through and solid contact can turn his breaks on. Handsy in coverage.

Overall

Watt isn't the freak size/speed athlete that his brother is but he's clearly no slouch. He's a smart, versatile edge player who can win against the run, drop in coverage and rush the passer.

Lacks fluidity and he's a bit linear as a rusher though his hand use and strength compensate some. He's high cut but he squares up well and his awareness and speed generally keep him in good position. He's likely a top 100 draft pick.

Pro Comparison: Mike Vrabel
