College Week 1 Standouts

Unheralded Wake QB Jamie Newman looked to keep last year's late season surge going vs Utah St and QB Jordan Love the the 19 opener.

RB Jonathan Taylor, Wisconsin

Monster producer since day 1 but I've had some skepticism about him running behind that Badger line. Week 1 he created yards on his own with elite burst and lateral quickness demonstrating first round talent.

QB Kellen Mond, Texas A&M

Mond has eye popping velocity and above average running ability and he's starting to put things together under his second season with Jimbo Fisher. Next week's Clemson game will play heavily into Mond's evaluation for the next level.

LB Kenneth Murray, Oklahoma

The Sooners leading tackler last year was doing a remarkable Jaylon Smith impersonation week 1 finishing with 13 tackles, 2.5 for loss and a pd vs Houston.

QB Jamie Newman, Wake Forest

Newman came out blistering vs Utah St with 401yds passing and 4 total TDs, carrying over his late 18' season play. Newman is reminding a little of a smaller Cam Newton, mixing strong arm accuracy and physical short yardage running ability.

RB Chuba Hubbard, Oklahoma St

Chuba's taking the reins from Justice Hill and exploded in his debut as the feature runner. Patience, vision and toughness en route to 250 total yds and 3 TDs. ..and a great name.

WR Isaiah Hodgins, Oregon St

On the other side of the field Hodgins easily stood out as the best player on the field for the Beavers. His height and foot quickness helped him gather 9 catches for 170 and 2TDs.

DE Trevis Gipson, Tulsa

Gipson was routinely into the backfield vs Michigan St using first step quickness and power to produce 2 TFL's a sack and 2 hurries and drawing a penalty. Big time debut for the senior.
