J.J. Arcega-Whiteside Scouting Report

April 13, 2019

"The most consistently dominant jump ball receiver I've seen since Mike Evans or Golden Tate. He's not the most agile or flat out fast guy though."

Strengths:

Big, physical rebounder with quick feet and vice hands. Short strider that's a little quicker than he looks. Decent burst off the line. Clutch hands and just "my ball's" anything inside his radius.

Tough and absorbs contact to make the catch. Plays taller than his height. Dominates the fade route and jump balls. Draws a ton of pi penalties.

Weaknesses:

Lacks long speed. Won't bully pro CBs as easily as college defenders. Length also won't be as much an advantage.

Overall:

Arcega-Whiteside is the most consistently dominant jump ball receiver I've seen since Mike Evans or Golden Tate. It's wasn't even fair for most college DB's covering him. He uses quick feet and his size to bully for position and has the ball skills to routinely pull in catch-able balls.

He's not the most agile or flat out fast guy though. He'll need to sell his routes effectively to become a solid pro possession receiver. He's not that dissimilar to, only catches TDs, Cris Carter. Conservatively though, I'll go with a better Jabar Gaffney as a comp.

NFL Comp: bigger Jabar Gaffney
